Welcome to Brown In The City! As women of color going after our dreams in NYC; we overcome obstacles daily. We created this space to express ourselves while inspiring and connecting other 'city shakers' of color.
Kelsey-Marie & LaPorsche
I am a twenty-something year old living in Brooklyn, NY. I was born in Brooklyn to Trinidadian parents and raised in Raleigh, NC. I moved back to NYC after I graduated from Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, NC.
I am an actress, writer and lover of small coffee shops, avocado toast & beauty/fashion!
I am a huge believer in setting goals and accomplishing them and I believe that anything is possible if you're crazy enough to take a chance on yourself.
As a child, all of my teachers would talk about how big of an imagination that I have. I still have that imagination today and my aim is to never lose my imagination or creativity.
Brown in the City is definitely a creative outlet for me and I will be posting about my adventures in NYC, my struggles as a twenty-something year old professional of color and beautiful things/products that inspire me and that I love.
So, thank you for visiting our site & I hope to post content that will inspire, entertain & engage you.
Hey Brown People!
Thanks for visiting Brown in the City! My name is LaPorsche (but only my mom calls me that). I’m a Brooklyn born city girl, who comes from a big family (1 of 5 kids). I have been freelancing in Television Production for the past 3 years. It has been full of great lessons and experiences but my passions are writing and storytelling, so I am currently working on that transition. My whole life is sort of in transition, now that I am in my late 20s my focus and confidence have increased and I am more aware of the things I want in life. I’m pretty much on a journey to becoming my best self, while writing about it and creating art along the way. I am sure I am not the only one, which is why Brown In The City is so necessary, here we can share, connect and figure it out together!
Umm what else? I love Jesus, helping people and dark chocolate, my guilty pleasure is ratchet reality TV! HA!
