Bit by the Travel Bug
Often times, we get so stuck in our ways that we forget how big this world is. We get caught up in work, relationships and the daily routine of our lives that we neglect to see all that the world has to offer. One of my goals for 2016 is to get out and explore other countries, cities and cultures.
The very first time I flew on an airplane was when I was two years old. I was heading to Trinidad and I don’t really remember much else about it.
My childhood was filled with traveling but I always took it for granted. I would have rather stayed at home and hung out with friends.
It wasn’t until 2012, that I developed an urge and desire to travel.
I had just graduated college and was depressed about not having a job in my field after graduating. My mom booked us a ten-day trip to Spain and Portugal. Most people would have been ecstatic but I wasn’t. I was so eager to find a job in television and move out of my parent’s house.
Looking back, I feel so stupid because that trip to Spain and Portugal really had an affect on my outlook on traveling and life in general.
I think that traveling is one of the best investments ever. The experiences that you get from traveling are memories that you will cherish forever. I know that many people's concerns are with the expenses that come along with traveling but it is definitely an expense worth while.
My trip to Spain and Portugal affected me because I was amazed to see how beautiful those countries are. It exceeded my expectations tremendously. It was amazing to be exposed to a different culture and a different way of life. It feels good to step out of your comfort zone and ditch your daily routine for a week or two.
Traveling has taught me that I should never limit myself. There is so much in this world for me to learn, experience and see that I should never settle for comfort.
Traveling also gives you opportunities to meet amazing and unique people that you normally wouldn’t meet in your everyday life.
I was living in North Carolina at the time of my trip to Spain and Portugal. When I came back, I was so inspired that I decided to take a risk and move to New York City. It was the best decision that I ever made. I put my fears to the side and I embarked on a new journey in life.
I have been bit with the travel bug and I am always on the quest for tickets to the next city/country to explore. I am definitely planning on traveling to a country that I have never been to and emerging myself into their culture/lifestyle this year. .
I highly advise people to travel to as many places as they can.
Your body, mind and soul will thank you for it.
