Motivation Monday: Favorite Songs

Happy Monday! After a quiet, relaxing, snowed in weekend it may be hard to get back into the swing of things. For me, music is both therapeutic and inspirational. Here are two songs I frequently listen to on the way to work to get me right for the week.

1.  My World Needs You By Krik Franklin feat. Sarah Reeves, Tasha Cobbs and Tamela Mann

This song is from Kirk Franklin’s latest album Losing My Religion. It is so beautiful and poetic with lyrics like “fix what I see, and God please fix me”, it is perfect to start your week optimistic and inspired to see all things and people with an open heart, mind and without judgment. Sarah, Tasha and Tamela all have unique soulful voices that complement each other. “Storms may come but when we call your name, all things change”, that’s what I believe, I walk through this life fearless and ready to take on anything that comes my way.  I say to myself, “Self, you got this! You don’t stand alone, you don’t fight alone, now go be great!”

2. Grind State by Jeezy

And now to make a complete left turn down gutta thuga blvd. These two song selections really explains me as a person. I was born and raised in New York, I love New York music, I have a splash of hood in me, but I luh God (Erica Campbell voice). But now back to this song from Jeezy's album Church in These Streets… "my dream is to make a million in a day, my dream is to make a mill by 12 today, and I can get it done that's my mindstate…" The hard beat mixed with Jeezy's catchy get money lyrics makes me feel like I can take over the world. I also play this while getting my cardio in at the gym and I can run on that treadmill forever! This song makes me not want to quit in my workout, in my endeavors, in my stressful day.
