3 Things I Left in 2016
Happy New Year!
I am so thankful to have made it through 2016, it was a pretty intense year. Personally, I made career changes and accomplished a few goals that were really important to me. I also had some struggles and slacked on other goals that were really important to me. But I definitely grew this year in ways I was not expecting. In 2017 I plan to grow even more and accomplish ALL of my goals. In order to do that I recognized there were some things that needed to be left in 2016…
1. Not asking
We can’t do anything ourselves. We need help, favors, relationships with other people, teamwork, advice and resources. I now ask for whatever I need and it is so freeing, and pleasantly surprising how often the answer is YES. I am also a giver, which I believe attracts other givers.
Story time! I came up with an idea in 2015 and sat on it for an entire year. I had every excuse, no location, team etc… Halfway through 2016, I finally just started to ask for what I needed and got it. It was so simple and once all was said and done, I couldn't believe I allowed an entire year to go by and all I needed to do was to determine who to ask, then ask. As my "bestie in my head" Yvonne Orji said on The Breakfast Club "you should help me, I got favor".
I am fully grown and my momma no longer tells me what to do, that’s not what I’m talking about. But have you ever hesitated or straight up refused to do something you knew you were supposed to? God the Father, Son, Holy Spirit and your gut all told you to go, and instead you stayed. Whether it was something that scared you, seemed too difficult or a sacrifice you weren’t ready for. Well I’ve been there and I’m personally done with that life. It leaves you wondering "what if", and ain't nobody got time for "what ifs" in 2017. I am following all of God's orders. I believe when you do what you are assigned to, there is something great on the other side of it.
3. Spending money on stupid ish…
I don’t want to know how much money I wasted in 2016 on almond milk lattes that do not taste better than the coffee I make at home and ubering everywhere. Whether it's too many brunches or subscriptions to services I do not need, I am canceling some transactions for 2017. I want to stick with my financial plan and savings goals. I rather have more money for beneficial spending like investing and travel. I'm going to reference my Money Saving Tips, research money managing and leave frivolousness in 2016!
I wish you all a prosperous and lit New Year! What's your plan for 2017? What is something you left in 2016?
