Top 5 Hair Products for Natural Kinky Hair

By now you can probably tell I love a “Top 5”, but what I love even more is my afro. I cut all my hair off last year (due to boredom and a desire to experiment) and I am now growing my fro back by protective styling. Every time I take down my braids or twists my hair is longer and fuller, which is why I had to pull out some of my favorite hair products I used back when I had hair! When it comes to beauty regimens I keep it simple and minimal.  I use the same companies across the board, sticking to natural products and even some ingredients you can find at your local grocery store.

1. Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner

I LOVE conditioner and Shea Moisture is my favorite. I have tried almost all of their conditioners and they all work pretty well on my hair but the Shea Butter Restorative is my favorite. It is specifically for dry hair and like most black girls, my hair can get as dry as the Sahara if I don't take care of it. The Shea Butter Restorative does a great job not only conditioning my hair but keepinh it clean because I do not use shampoo (don’t judge me, I’ll get to that later). I also love this conditioner because it makes detangling easy and has great nutritional organic ingredients like Sea Kelp and Argan Oil.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar

Next time you are in the grocery store, I recommend you grab a bottle of Apple Cider Vinegar. My favorite is the Trader Joe’s brand. I dilute apple cider vinegar with water, spray it all over my hair, let that marinate, then rinse. It leaves my hair super clean without stripping it of natural oils and drying it out like a shampoo. I do this about once a month when I feel I need a better clean than my conditioner provides. I love just using raw ingredients in my hair and not having to worry about a list of ingredients I never heard of.

3.  Nature’s Chemist Treat Hair and Body Butter

So once my hair is clean and conditioned, it’s time to moisturize my situation.  I love Shea Butter and this whipped concoction is my favorite. The cool thing about Nature's Chemist Treat is that the founder is an ACTUAL chemist who knows how to combine organic ingredients to promote beauty and hair health. The Butterscotch flavor is the best and I use it to moisturize and style my hair.

 4. Coconut Oil

Moisturizing is pretty pointless if you do not seal the moisture in. I seal with oils and my favorite is coconut oil. It’s the most moisturizing and locks in the moisture from the water and shea butter that I already put on my hair. Coconut oil adds shine, it's light weight and smells great. I also like coconut oil on my skin, so any excess gets rubbed into my hand and on my nails.

5. Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie

I have been really loyal to this one, using it for years. I always turn to it in the summer, when I want to use a really light and easy moisturizer. This product is really smooth and I use it for all styles from twist outs to wash and gos. The curl enhancing smoothie is just my reliable go to. I know it will always work, it's affordable and accessible.

My journey of hair cuts!
