Vegan Eats - Strictly Vegetarian; (Flatbush, Brooklyn)

Vegan Eats is a new series highlighting the best vegan restaurants in NYC. A new restaurant will be featured each month.

This past weekend, I ventured to Flatbush and stumbled upon this dope vegan restaurant called Strictly Vegetarian.

Being Trinidadian, I was craving West Indian food but didn't have many in my neighborhood (Bed-Stuy) that would have a lot of vegan options -- most West Indian restaurants have an abundance of meats and the only vegan option would be steamed cabbage.

I knew that I would have to go to an Ital spot to get my West Indian vegan fix.

Luckily, I found that at Strictly Vegetarian.

Strictly Vegetarian is located on Church Ave. (between Flatbush Ave. and Bedford Ave.). This restaurant is a very small "hole in the wall" but the food here is AMAZING!

The menu for the day I ate here was: Fried Rice, Veggie Chow Mein, Curry Chucks (Tofu), Chick peas, BBQ Tofu, Stir Fry Veggie, Kale and a Spinach Okra Soup

There is a set menu for the day (everyday they have a different selection) -- so you choose which size container you want (small, medium or large) and they fill it up with the items that they cooked for the day.

While the food wasn't very photogenic; the taste was out of this world. I had an amazing West Indian meal and was not deprived of meat at all! The curry chunks tasted just like curry chicken and the BBQ Tofu had enough spice and flavor to have me questioning if I was really eating tofu.

There are also pastries and homemade drinks that you can choose from to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Don't judge a book by it's cover -- this food was BOMB!

Although the name of the restaurant is Strictly Vegetarian, everything that they serve (including pastries) are 100% vegan!

The other amazing thing about this restaurant? It is a black owned business! I think that it is really important to support black owned businesses and was excited that I could support a black owned, vegan restaurant in Brooklyn.

If you're in Brooklyn, I highly suggest visiting Strictly Vegetarian in Flatbush. This place isn't just for Ital eaters, vegetarian or vegans -- meat eaters can eat here too and be completely satisfied!
