Lifestyle Spring Cleaning

After what seems like forever, spring is finally here!

I love spring because it feels like a fresh start -- shedding the clothing & baggage of the winter and enjoying longer & brighter days.

I like to prepare for spring by doing some spring cleaning -- physically, mentally & spiritually!

Here's how I prepare for spring:

1. Cleaning my living space

If your mind feels cluttered, you may want to start by cleaning the space you live in. I believe that by holding on to materialistic items that you no longer use; your mind and life starts to feel cluttered.

I cleaned out my closet and gave away clothing & shoes that I no longer use. Not only is this uncluttering my room and mind but i'm donating it to the Goodwill (so someone else will be able to put these items to good use)! I also threw away things that I was only holding on to because memories were attached to them. It's crazy how much energy certain items can hold.

I am working towards living a more minimalist lifestyle and by cleaning out my room; I feel more refreshed and relaxed.

2. Let go of toxic people

As hard as it is to fully accept -- some people are only in your life for a season. Not everyone is meant to be a part of your entire journey here on earth. This year is teaching me to acknowledge when a relationship has run it's course in my life.

I know someone is toxic when:

  • Speaking/communicating with them is physically & emotionally draining
  • The person always plays victim or has a sob story
  • The person is selfish
  • Drama is added to my life by communicating with that person

If communicating and dealing with someone is only bringing you stress & unhappiness: let. it. go.

Of course this is easier said than done but when it's done you will feel lighter & more progressive.

Also, get rid of items that remind you of that person/relationship.

3. Get physical!

I don't know about you but during the winter months I start to eat more and exercise less. It's something about the cold NYC weather that deters me from making it to the gym regularly.

Now that it's getting warm, I've been going to the gym 3-4 times a week. Having a workout partner is a great way to make sure you make it -- hold each other accountable!

Physical exercise is SO important -- the older I get, the more I realize this! Not only do you look great but you also feel great. Working out consistently improves your sleep, skin and overall mood -- so get a workout buddy & get physical!

Also, summer is coming so I gotta make sure I get right for my summer body goals haha!

4. Do what you love

Whether it's praying, meditating, reading, drinking coffee/tea or going to your favorite restaurant -- do something you love! Our lives get so busy that we sometimes forget to do something for ourselves.

I know it may sound cliche but self-love and self-care is so important -- especially during these times.

I make sure to do something for myself at least once a week. I started getting back into reading -- reading a good book in a quiet space recharges me & makes me feel ready to tackle the obstacles that life throws at me.

I hope these tips were useful -- what are some things you do to Spring clean your life?

Let me know!
